I don't know how accurate this test is, but you might find it interesting:

Political Compass Test

My prediction would be that a number of posters here would score somewhere in the upper right quadrant. Try it and see what you think!

My score: Economic Left/Right -0.25 and Libertarian/Authoritarian -0.46. This put me near exact dead center- - -which must mean that I am absolutely, positively correct about everything....unless I'm wrong about this.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Dave

First, let me thank everyone who has taken this test. I am not sure exactly how "scientific" this is; as Tom and others have noted, one's score might change each time one takes the test. But it is interesting, anyway.

In reply to:
[color:"blue"]I think Theo wanted to predict that a *greater* number of people will score in the upper-right quadrant. Is that right?

Actually, I worded my first post the way I did for a reason. I figured some of you would score in the upper right quadrant, which was correct--but I had no idea how others would do. I confess I had not expected the number clustered around the center of the graph. As I did expect, no one so far has been *much* to the left of the graph, but somewhat to my surprise, I seem to have scored farthest on the right of the graph. My own score was:

Economic Left/Right: 4.50
Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.90

In my case, the Economic Left/Right score has remained constant each time I've taken the test--but the Libertarian/Authoritarian score has fluctuated between 1.08 and 3.90. Go figure, eh? I guess I am a committed capitalist (economic conservative)!

Theo
Dear Theo,

Thanks for that link! That was fun, if somewhat frustrating. Although the authors are quite correct to favor a 2-dimensional system over the overused "left-right", additional dimensions would be even more accurate. Some of the dichotomies posed in the test cannot be resolved without reference to other criteria, as others have alluded to above.

I have taken the liberty of plotting the responses of everyone to this point in the thread, in the attached file. It seems that your early guess was correct after all, although there is quite a wide range of opinion out there!
