Hi Boanerges,

I am looking forward to finally be in the 50 Club. There seems to be another club here, the Take5 club. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/Eeeeeek.gif" alt="" /> I have a fairly good collection of Jazz instrumental, right across the board; from strict score to free form players.

My real passion is the blues players and singers. I have had one favourite for a few years now and it is that timeless duo of 'Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee' on an album called 'Blowin' the Fuses' - I think they have Lightning Hopkins sitting in. When the blues, as with all music styles is in the 'House of the Lord' as so to speak, it is by far the most gratifying.

It is no doubt that there is another dimension to music other than what is audible. Music has penetration to the spirit and therefore has dynamic effect on personality. (I noticed at the physio Dr's spot, she had a degree in Musical Healing or something like that. She had orchestral/classical stuff playing in her rooms.

Slightly off the topic. I am currently listening to a lecture titled 'The Artist Needs No Justification' by Dr Rookmaker, who wrote 'Modern Art and the Death of a Culture' (way back) and I have worked through and impressive set of sixteen lectures by Ray Huges of Selah Ministries. (A most interesting and inspiring man.) He taught himself to read music as he was given the task of conducting a 28 piece orchestra, which swelled to; I think 3 000 people in total...His thoughts about the musicians in King David's orchestra and their qualifications was of great fascination. (He himself admitting to being saved at an Iron Butterfly Concert while listening to 'Ingaddadavida')

The writers (lyricists) have always fascinated me. Have any of you Jazzy babies listened to the latest Bob Dylan, 'Modern Times' it is surpisingly mellow and very jazzy. I mean it, plus his lyrics are worth a twist and a tickle. Dylan was hailed as a prophet, and so was Paul Simon, what messages are they putting out these days? In your opinion who are the real messengers to this generation...? (which artist and musicians ?)

If music is the expression of the inner-most being, what if there is nothing inside ? Is the empty-barrel syndrome the cause of all the NOISE ? Is a pretty melody, a sweet tune, a catch chorus line a mirror to a lost world ? Is musical excellence, or entertainment - keeping the customers satisfied being a mirror to, or a mirror of a lost world - meaningless, puffed up and pretty, but hollow ?

His,
