I am a Canadian who is watching the US pre-election jockeying with interest.
Though I favor the Republican side, I must admit there are few things that I think are questionable i.e. Sara Pahlin being chosen as a running mate.
It would seem that the Democrats have this election in the bag, however I came accross a web site that believes that even with the endorsement of Colin Powell of Obama the Republicans have a very good chance of being elected.

Thought?

By the way as most probably know, Conservative leader Stephen Harper was re-elected to a minority government up here in Canada. I am happy with the result, but I was hoping for a majority.

Tom,

I think the presidential election may be fairly close, but I doubt it will be as close as the 2004 election. While the strength of his lead has varied over the course of the campaign, Sen. Obama has long had the lead over Sen. McCain. In recent weeks that lead has been growing, especially in the states which were the most contested in the 2004 election. Frankly, "socialism" just isn't the four-letter word it used to be in the U.S. As our Congress and President rush to throw billions of dollars at the widening financial crisis, Americans seem much more inclined to look to the federal government for solutions to all their problems. Simply put, Sen. Obama is promising more federal government than Sen. McCain, and that message is more palatable to the American people in these uncertain times.

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified.
