I recently watched a short excerpt of a debate by James White on You Tube called 'Why George Bryson Won't Debate Anymore'.
I was expecting to hear something that seemed worthy of the title, however although I agreed with James White about the issue, I am not sure why this would cause George Bryson not to debate anymore.
The issue was over how John 6 should be interpreted and Bryson gave the standard Arminian answer, yet I am not sure why James White used that particular tactic.
Anyone care to tell me why?
You can view it here .

The answer to your question about Mr.Bryson not wanting to debate any longer is not answered in this small video. I'm sure there must be more discussion in this debate that is not recorded here.

It appears in his argument that Mr. Bryson separates "ability" from "coming". He seems to want to place the emphasis on the human responsibility part of coming to Christ. In other words he would say God gives us the keys to the car but it won't get us anywhere unless we start the engine and drive away. This is a typical argument from those who refuse to admit total depravity.

While that argument may sound plausible at a certain level Scripture disputes it. Jesus said, "All that the Father gives Me WILL come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will never cast out." (John 6:37)

The problem Mr. Bryson has is typical of many who do not read things in context but rather impose their bias into the reading of a text. If one were to read the verses preceding verse 44 they would not come to the same conclusion Bryson has. In fact in verse 45 we read "Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me". God leads to faith all whom He plans to redeem. The redemption of the elect is certain.

Thanks Wes

Although I totally agree with you, I am not sure why James White used the tactic he did. Do you understand why?
In my mind anyway, all White succeeded in doing was to make clear what Bryson believed, not the fallacy of it.

Tom:

To understand that video you must do some investigation yourself. I suggest you go to AOMIN.org and use their search engine to read up on all the stuff related to George Bryson and James R. White's debate. Having heard a little of this I can say that what Wes has stated is on the money especially when you consider Bryson's statements regarding the proper Greek interpretation of the text.

Again to really understand what went on regarding this debate you have to do some research if not see the entire video debate which I believe they have for sale at AOMIN.
