Just wondering...
Since Abel was a shepherd, did he raise sheep exclusively to provide them as a sacrifice? Isn't it also possible that he tended the flocks for their wool, and to butcher them and enjoy mutton? We know that he brought "fat portions" as an offering, so he had to butcher the sheep. Whether he also prepared the meat to eat, the text doesn't tell.
