Did Noah eat pork?

Did the antedeluvians eat meat at all?

9: 1-3 “And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. "The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are given.
"Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant.

The prohibition to abstain from pork, a part of the dietary laws, was given to Israel and not until then. Those laws were abrogated at the coming of Christ for they had served their purpose and the theocratic nation of Israel was no more. (cf. Acts 10:11ff and 11:5ff)

Genesis 7:2
Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.

Is it reasonable to assume that clean/unclean applied to eating as well as sacrifice?

Is it reasonable to think Noah did not eat meat at all until after the Flood?

No, I personally don't see anything in that passage that would lend itself to that conclusion, i.e., a dietary law. Can you find anything else which would indicate such?

What I do find is Mosaic and referring to ceremonial use and the eating of clean and unclean animals, e.g., Lev 1:1-47; 20:25 and Deut 14:1-29.

Antediluvian

Genesis 1:29-30 “Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food"; and it was so.”

Postdiluvian;

Thats dietary , and we know Noah recognized clean and unclean. I dont know of a specific mention wrt sacrifice or consumption, from Genesis. I think there is a strong implication that these critters served both purposes but the above may indicate otherwise.
Ive always though permission to eat meat was implicit in the slaughter of the first lamb, but I dont know for sure...

Hitch,

The Genesis 1 passage is somewhat irrelevant, which I will bring up below, mainly because it is as noted 'Antediluvian' (pre-Fall).

The Genesis 9 passage seems to make my point, that ALL things were given for food after the Fall with no mention of any prohibitions in regard to certain types of food which seems clear enough from the text itself: "With all wherewith the ground teemeth, and all the fishes of the sea, into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be food for you; As the green herb have I given you all."

Now, the "irrelevant" part of Gen. 1. It seems to me that Peter got a 'taste' (pun intended) of the rebuilding of the corruption which took place at the Fall. At the coming of Christ, these dietary laws were no longer necessary and once again man is free to eat all. (Rom 14:14)

But the question is about Noah and co.

Were they carniverous before the Flood?

Does the clean/unclean pertain to sacrifices?

Does the clean/unclean pertain only to sacrifices and excludes consumption?

Again, I personally read nothing to the contrary, i.e., from Adam after the Fall God allowed all things to be eaten for food. Unless Noah and his family had an aversion to meat and thus chose to be vegans I have to assume that they ate meat.

In regard to how the designation "clean/unclean" was to be applied, again I have to believe that it belonged to sacrificial practice since I cannot find anything in regard to dietary restrictions until Moses. grin

Is there some particular reason for this discussion regarding what Noah ate? scratchchin

Am I missing something?

Is this the first time men are allowed meat?

Just wondering...

Since Abel was a shepherd, did he raise sheep exclusively to provide them as a sacrifice? Isn't it also possible that he tended the flocks for their wool, and to butcher them and enjoy mutton? We know that he brought "fat portions" as an offering, so he had to butcher the sheep. Whether he also prepared the meat to eat, the text doesn't tell.
