A theologian friend of mine gave me some more background on the history of the RCA. According to him the RCA came to America from the Dutch "Hervormde Kerk" (HK). Apparently there have been divisions in the HK for quite a long time and it also spilled over to the RCA in the US. For some reason the HK in the Netherlands lives with this internal division between the conservatives and the liberals. It is one denomination but it seems as if it is well known who the conservative and who the liberal ministers are. It is like two denominations in one. One can sense this also in the two articles. The reason why de Young does not move out of the RCA might be because of the history of this denomination. That's just my guess.
