Harold Camping is both "old news" and "current news". Yes, most of us have come to know of this bizarre false teacher/prophet over past years. But he's in the news again via some of his more devoted 'disciples' who are out to warn the country (USA) that the judgment day of God is coming on May 21, 2011.
He’s still around? I first encountered him around 1995, I think. I was staying in my grandmother’s house closing out her estate after she died. The only “Christian” radio station I could receive had Camping’s program playing. If memory serves right, but I think the world was supposed to end in September of that year, or maybe the following year. Whatever the case, the world hasn’t ended as far as I know.
I would love to know how he supports his teachings in light of Matthew 24:36.
He makes me so angry the way he twists scriptures and speaks with such self appointed authority, I can't wait for the 22nd so we can be rid of this heretic once and for all....
I want to pray that he will turn from these false teachings but it seems as if his heart is fully hardened and he is being left over to himself at this point
The mercy of God is necessary not only when a person repents, but even to lead him to repent, Augustine
Sadly, he’ll be back. He’ll make an excuse or something. According to his teachings the world was supposed to end several times before. The most disturbing thing, though, is the number of people that have turned their backs on the Truth to follow him. I know of a church in north central Illinois that split because of his teachings. It saddened the pastor, because someone brought it in and then dragged a bunch off to a church where Camping’s teaching are espoused.
I find it amazing that Camping and others like him are given a "free pass" despite the fact that they are teaching serious heresy, even damnable heresy. The Scriptures are clear enough aren't they in regard to people who make predictions; aka: prophets, and those who promote themselves as being the voice of God to the people?
Deuteronomy 18:20-22 (ASV) "But the prophet, that shall speak a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die. And if thou say in thy heart, How shall we know the word which Jehovah hath not spoken? when a prophet speaketh in the name of Jehovah, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which Jehovah hath not spoken: the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously, thou shalt not be afraid of him."
Ol Weirdy was on the radio today. He has announced not only the date, but the time.
It will be late afternoon and it will respect the International Date Line. The event will take 24 hours so it comes at the same time,by the clock, everywhere on Earth.
I wonder if TBN will shut down for this like they did in '88.
Well said, Pilgrim; however, therein lies the problem. The Scriptures are only clear to those that actually read them. Those that follow Camping cannot be reading the “the whole counsel of God.” Much like those caught up in the Charismatic movement, they pick and choose those references that suit them and build an entire doctrinal position. It’s rather sad, actually. It makes me wonder what those people will think come May 22. Will they be angry at Camping for the deception or God for not following through? One thing is certain and that is they need much prayer.
Seems to me that he got "hurt" by "organized religion" somewhere along the line and decided that God has written off "organized religion." All denominations and churches that are part of it are, to his mind, apostate, and God is "calling His people out of the churches" and into Camping's camp.
It just seems bitter. Anyone who has been a Christian longer than a few months has been "hurt by organized religion" in some way or another, because we're all fallen humans with fallen human weaknesses and sinful, selfish tendencies.
But God established the Church, both visible and invisible, and those who reject it are rejecting Him along with it.
