When you hear the phrase " Give your life to Jesus" does this imply Semi-Pelagian thinking?

Taken one of two ways:
1. Justification: hardly indicative of a credible profession of faith and could be construed as some 'free-will decision; semi-Pelagian.
2. Dedication of one returning after falling into sin, aka: Sanctification. No indication of the heart of the individual in this matter.

What's your thought(s)? smile

Makes me wonder where they heard the gospel and what did they hear. Was it the same thing? "Give your life to Jesus."
There are so many churches today that preach easy-believism, meaning adding believing in Jesus to your list of things to do and your unchanged life goes on as usual.
I'm sure this is not the gospel the Puritans preached.

It very well could mean that.

However, in this day and age I have found that some things
like that, are said just because that is what has been said so often.

This occurs even in many Reformed circles. I suggest asking the person what
is involved in that?

Think may or may not be able to answer that.

Same kind of thing with the "invite Jesus into your heart" advice. I never knew what that meant, but best I knew how, I "invited" Christ to rule.

More accurately, I surrendered to Him with gratitude for His having rescuing me from the wrath and curse of God.

I recently found this article on The Highway and I think it spells out what most churches are preaching today. Sad.

Thanks for pointing to Pink's incredible and incredibly appropriate article "Present Day Evangelism". Many times I have been told that Pink 'offended' them and their evangelism efforts and intents. But that it was offense to them tells all... that Pink revealed their error and ill-intent in evangelizing. It is sadly true that many churches are filled with unregenerate 'professing believers' in whom the Spirit has not yet worked grace. Wrong gospels can and do only produce false conversions. And the difficulty to us who are privy to this and try to explain to those who believe their free-will choice is what has saved them and not their neighbor is that they harden their hearts to the truth and remain under the just wrath and condemnation of God while falsely believing their salvation is secured in their 'faith'.
