I was debating with a friend, and he was making a distinction between the mind(which he said is the soul) and the spirit(that is made alive in Christ).
Is it trichotomy or dichotomy or something else? Or it doesn't matter?
I've attached the comments of William Hendriksen from his New Testament Commentary on I and II Thessalonians, and specifically verse 5:23. I think you will find it very helpful as he discusses the various views, how they are derived and critiques them all. The attachment is in a ".doc" format (MS Word). However, if anyone is unable to open/read the document and would like to do so, PM me and I'll e-mail you the same article in ".pdf" format, which can be read with Acrobat Reader.
However, if you have an AOL e-mail address I will not be able to accommodate you because AOL blocks all e-mail sent from The Highway as spam, even though they have been informed that it is not. So, you will need a non-AOL address if you want me to send you the .pdf version.
I believe scripture uses the dichotomous model and that the spirit component of man is referred to as "spirit" when its interests and context are spiritually oriented and as "soul" when the context is earthly and corporeal.
