<img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bananas.gif" alt="" /> I was debating with a friend, and he was making a distinction between the mind(which he said is the soul) and the spirit(that is made alive in Christ).

Is it trichotomy or dichotomy or something else? Or it doesn't matter? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bananas.gif" alt="" />

I've attached the comments of William Hendriksen from his New Testament Commentary on I and II Thessalonians, and specifically verse 5:23. I think you will find it very helpful as he discusses the various views, how they are derived and critiques them all. The attachment is in a ".doc" format (MS Word). I believe scripture uses the dichotomous model and that the spirit component of man is referred to as "spirit" when its interests and context are spiritually oriented and as "soul" when the context is earthly and corporeal.
