As dialoging with someone who seems to hold that death of Jesus reconciled all humanity back to God, wasn't that part of Barthian theology?

As dialoging with someone who seems to hold that death of Jesus reconciled all humanity back to God, wasn't that part of Barthian theology? In part... Karl Barth was one mixed up dude! He held to Universalism AND Particularism. Contused? His approach was a 'dialectic' which allowed him to hold that contrary propositions are compatible, e.g., he believed in election of all men, but there were two groups of the elect; the elect elect and the elect reject. More contused? ![[Linked Image]](http://www.the-highway.com/Smileys/confused_duck_smtrans.gif) My advice? Stay away from Karl Barth until you have a firm grasp on biblical truth, aka: Calvinism.

Thanks... Asked my pastor on him, and his remark was cery smart, but very confused, as his take on the scriptures was less than Orthodox, and His view on election was Universalism, but baerg could not quite go there

Barth started or made popular "Neo-Orthodoxy". He was hardly "confused". His views were well thought out, albeit seriously wrong. Neo-Orthodoxy is just another damnable heresy on the long list of such which have attacked the Church for centuries. And one other tidbit of advice... avoid anyone who makes apologies for Barth or any of the myriad heretics past and/or present. There is no place for "ecclesiastical correctness". "I am not permitted to let my love be so merciful as to tolerate and endure false doctrine. When faith and doctrine are concerned and endangered, neither love nor patience are in order.... when these are concerned, neither toleration nor mercy are in order, but only anger, dispute, and destruction - to be sure, only with the Word of God as our weapon." - Martin Luther

I like to read the arguements others have used to try to prove their case, such as a Robb Bell or Open theism as want to see what theur reasoning process is in able to refute it!

I like to read the arguements others have used to try to prove their case, such as a Robb Bell or Open theism as want to see what theur reasoning process is in able to refute it! There is nothing wrong with familiarizing oneself with unbiblical views in and of itself. However, the best way to approach these views which are countless is to know biblical truth thoroughly. The most effect way for banks to spot counterfeit money is to study real money and know all that pertains to it so that ANY counterfeit will be discovered. Far too many spend their time trying to understand false doctrines and too little time reading and studying Scripture. 2 Timothy 2:15 (ASV) "Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth."
Acts 17:10-11 (ASV) "And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Beroea: who when they were come thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so."
Acts 17:16-18 (ASV) "Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he beheld the city full of idols. So he reasoned in the synagogue with Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with them that met him. And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection."
John 17:17 (ASV) "Sanctify them in the truth: thy word is truth."

I remember somewhat an article back in the 90s where Hillary Clinton claimed that Barth was her favorite theologian, and the good old days in her youth program at a UMC church.

Barthianism/Neo-Orthodoxy became quite popular in the 70's at Calvin College and Seminary (CRC). I remember well having to deal with those who thought it was just marvelous.

Just like the Treasury dept, as they spend time learning how real money looks in order to see fake stuff...
There is a real need to know the cardinal truths of the Christian faith, as that would prevent the bad heresies such as wof and Evolution, and free will salvation!

I would never attend Calvin College or Seminary even if was free. I studied at Westminster Theological Seminary in the late 70s and early 80s as well as two other seminaries. Of course, by refusing to even walk on the campus of Calvin College, never mind pay money to sit under the teachers there, I realize that I am really missing out on taking such courses as "Liturgical Dance" and such moonbat courses.

Weren't they well respected earlier on though for calvinistic studies, as thought a premier apologist taught there?

Weren't they well respected earlier on though for calvinistic studies, as thought a premier apologist taught there? That depends what you mean by "earlier on". When Berkhof was teaching there, things were quite good still. Both the college and seminary were established in 1876. However, from the 1920s onward, things started a downward trend. In the mid 1960s and 70s the CRC was well entrenched in heretical teachings and quickly fell away. I remember those days well and lamented over what I witnessed during those days. I think R.C. Sproul, Sr., who gave the commencement address at WTS in 1979, was 100% correct when he said that no theological seminary has ever lasted more than 50 years before it plunged into apostasy.

So that college has fully departed than from Reformed teachings of the past? IF by "fully" you mean they reject everything that the Reformed Faith encompasses, then no. But they have gone far astray and cannot be said to be Reformed in any shape or manner in doctrine or life according to the historical documents and definition of the term. In fact, historic, confessional, biblical Christianity is not taught there either, which admittedly Calvinism is part.
