I am a Canadian who is watching the US pre-election jockeying with interest.
Though I favor the Republican side, I must admit there are few things that I think are questionable i.e. Sara Pahlin being chosen as a running mate.
It would seem that the Democrats have this election in the bag, however I came accross a web site that believes that even with the endorsement of Colin Powell of Obama the Republicans have a very good chance of being elected.

Thought?

By the way as most probably know, Conservative leader Stephen Harper was re-elected to a minority government up here in Canada. I am happy with the result, but I was hoping for a majority.

Obama made a gaff, by exposing himself as a socialist with the whole 'Joe Plumber' incident and the left media is making it even worse for him by digging into Joe's past more then they ever cared to dig into Obama's. I don't think this is in the bag yet for the Democrats.

About Palen, I think that's the only thing he got holding his conservative vote. Most of his campaign he's been pandering to independents so picking someone who's a hardcore conservative energized the crowd on the right, and POed the Hillary crowd, after all it was their destiny to put a woman in a White House and by choosing Palen, McCain now appears to be the 'ring bearer' for women rights.

Hi

Thanks for your input.
You mentioned the whole 'Jake the Plumber' incident. I did a Google search on the incident and although I found links to it. What I didn't find is anything solid as to Obama attacking 'Joe the Plumber'.

Can you point me to this and then tell me what Obama did that would create such a controversy?

Tom,

Sen. Obama didn't "attack" Joe "the Plumber" Wurzelbacher. Mr. Wurzelbacher approached Sen. Obama while the senator was on the campaign trail & asked him about his tax plan & what effect that would have on small business owners, as Mr. Wurzelbacher aspires to buy the plumbing business he works for. In the course of answering Mr. Wurzelbacher, Sen. Obama suggested that his tax plan would help out the people "behind" Mr. Wurzelbacher's success, and said that he feels it's a good thing to "spread the wealth around." Sen. McCain's campain shrewdly seized upon these statements as evidence of Sen. Obama's socialist leanings.

Tom,

I think the presidential election may be fairly close, but I doubt it will be as close as the 2004 election. While the strength of his lead has varied over the course of the campaign, Sen. Obama has long had the lead over Sen. McCain. In recent weeks that lead has been growing, especially in the states which were the most contested in the 2004 election. Frankly, "socialism" just isn't the four-letter word it used to be in the U.S. As our Congress and President rush to throw billions of dollars at the widening financial crisis, Americans seem much more inclined to look to the federal government for solutions to all their problems. Simply put, Sen. Obama is promising more federal government than Sen. McCain, and that message is more palatable to the American people in these uncertain times.

Here's on Breitbart just a single source on 'spreading the wealth around', but if you google the quote i think you'll get a bigger picture.

Here's another God sent for McCain Biden assuring us that Obama will be tested by the world . Looks weird, why not just elect a candidate who won't be tested. Biden's comments are also catching fire.

There are twelve names on the ballot for president in most states! I wish the other ten could get a little coverage. The two "major party" candidates are both ungodly socialists in my opinion, and I won't vote for either one!

Robin

Would you agree that the main differences when it comes the recession between the Republican and Democrats is how they intend to deal with it?
Mainly if I understand it correctly, the Republicans intent to borrow from other countries, which would make the USA indebted to them. While the Democrats would deal with it by taxing the people more.
What do you think is the best way to deal with recession?

I'm with you Robin when somebody asks me I reply that those two parties are just Socialist party A or Socialist party B. I am not voting for either.

Psalm 33:10-22

10 The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.
11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever,
The plans of His heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,
The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.

13 The LORD looks from heaven;
He sees all the sons of men.
14 From the place of His dwelling He looks
On all the inhabitants of the earth;
15 He fashions their hearts individually;
He considers all their works.

16 No king is saved by the multitude of an army;
A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for safety;
Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.

18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope in His mercy,
19 To deliver their soul from death,
And to keep them alive in famine.

20 Our soul waits for the LORD;
He is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart shall rejoice in Him,
Because we have trusted in His holy name.
22 Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us,
Just as we hope in You.

I think you are holding your head in the sand by equating the two parties as the same. The GOP party leaders have failed miserable, but there is a huge difference between the two parties. We will all see when the DEMS take control over all three branches in our government.

Why John how kind of you to point out my predicament. I would never had realized that instead of getting incrementally worse under the Republicans that Democrats would have a logarithmic effect once gaining control of all three branches. And while it maybe true that it is better that we go socialist slowly over time under Republicans rather than quickly under the Democrats. Similar to what had happened under FDR for instance when he instituted the New Deal. I recognize the beast for what it is.

So, Sen. Obama will be the next president of the United States. The election went pretty much they way I expected it to go. We shall have to wait and see what will become of our nation under Mr. Obama's presidency.
